Aline White - Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Aline White - Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
When thingking about "Seventies" Gospel music, New Orleans won't be the first city that comes to your mind. As in every american city, gospel music was recorded in New Orleans during the "seventies".
One New Orleans gospel label at that time was Pontchartain Records. Pontchartain was owned by jazz/dixieland trumpet player Wallace Davenport. Pontchartain Records released about 5 gospel albums in the mid-seventies.
One of those albums was "I Shall Not Be Moved" (Pontchartrian LP 140) by Aline White in 1974. The album is a mix of dixieland style versions of "Down By The Riverside" and "When The Saints Go Marching In" on the one hand and ballads like "Precious Lord" and "Amazing Grace" on the other.
"Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" fits in the latter category.
Aline White recorded and performed in the nineties as jazz/gospel singer.
