East St. Louis Gospelettes - You Got To Move

East St. Louis Gospelettes - You Got To Move

This is our third group of Gospelettes. None of them are related with each other. The East St. Louis Gospelettes recorded three albums for Checker in the early seventies before moving to Nashboro were they recorded two albums in the late seventies. In the eighties they recorded one album for Birthright.
As  "You Got To Move" is the song that gave this blog its name, it was an easy choice. "You Got To Move" is from their second album, the 1972 released "You Can't Hurry God". Unlike most, if not all, versions of "You Got To Move", this one is a mid-tempo swining version. Most likely is that arrangers Ralph Bass and Oliver Sain, who also produced the album, are responsible for this. Bass and Sain are responsible for many of those soulful gospel tunes recorded by Checker artists.
Frances Moore was leader of the East St. Louis Gospelettes who her fellow Gospelettes were is a mystery to me as the album covers don't give any information whatsoever about the membership.
