Jubilee Hummingbirds - Higher In The Lord (live)

The Jubilee Hummingbirds are from Memphis, TN and have a career dating back to the late fifties.  They made there record debut in the mid-sixties for local Memphis label Mayo, before they moved on to Stax gospel subsidiary Chalice in 1965/66 where they recorded one 45. After short stops at Rush (2 45s), Sound of Memphis (1 45), they finally got a stable relationship with a record company.
For Messenger they recorded in the 1970s at least 3 albums and around 10 45s, some of them also got a release on Designer. Membership of the group remained more or less the same over the years.
"Higher On The Lord" is taken from their live album "Roots Of Your Soul"(Messenger LP 2005) and was recorded at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Memphis sometime in 1979.
