Violinaires - I'll Never Forget That Day
Violinaires - I'll Never Forget That Day
Today, six years ago Robert Blair, lead singer of the Violinaires died. The Violinaires started their recording career in the mid fifties in the days before Robert Blair was a member. From the mid sixties onwards with Robert Blair firmly established as their leader the Violinaires recorded about ten albums for Checker. In 1972 they moved to Jewel where they recorded another 7 albums. In the early 1980s it was time to move to yet another label. This time it was Malaco, for which they recorded 4 albums. In the early 1990s they recorded 2 albums for AIR.
The Violinaires, especially in the 1960s and 1970s were one of the most soulful and funkiest gospel groups around. "I'll Never Forget That Day" taken from the 1978 album "Violinaires" (Jewel LP 0138) is a great example of their hard soulful and funky sound.
At the moment, how said it is, their are two groups using the name the Violinaires; The Fantastic Violinaires and Lil' Blair & the Violinaires.
