Dixie Hummingbirds - Moving On

Dixie Hummingbirds - Moving On

I just got the news that Ira Tucker Sr. has passed away June 24 at the age of 83. Tucker together with the other members made The Dixie Hummingbirds one of the leading gospel quartets for several decades. For the full story on the Dixie Hummingbirds read Jerry Zolten's "Great God A Mighty", their excellent biography.
Besides being being a great lead singer Ira Tucker Sr. was also a great producer who in the 1970s produced many albums, not only their own albums, but also a lot of upcoming gospel artists at the
Gospel Roots label. The Hummingbirds recorded two albums for Gospel Roots. "Moving On" is taken from the album with the same title, which was released in 1980.
I would like to finish this (short) tribute to one of gospel greats by quoting
Bob Marovich's tribute to Ira Tucker:
"Pay tribute to Mr. Tucker by putting a Birds record on the ol' turntable tonight (or a CD in the player, your preference!) and remember a great singer who has joined the Heavenly Quartet."

I am one who so admire the Dixie Hummingbirds, and most importantly, Mr. Ira Tucker, Sr. He was my favorite gospel singer. To my ears, his voice is matched by no other.

Condolences to the Birds, and to the Tucker family. Rest in peace faithful servant.

    Love you!

I purchased a cd for my husband because he likes blues. We were driving when I put the cd in for the first time, now we never make long drives without this cd. We love to sing along. It is very uplifting, happy music. I am sorry to hear Mr. Tucker has passed away, but my did he leave a beautiful legacy in his music.
