Famous Biblettes - All Through These Years

Famous Biblettes - All Through These Years

The Famous Biblettes of Jersey City, New Jersey started their career ten years before they recrded today's selection, according to the liner notes of their album "Blessing Us All Through These Years".  The van in the picture gives an indication, but I do have no idea when it was made. Late seventies? Early eighties? All I know is that their follow up album "Time" was also released on their own Biblettes Records and that is was picked up by the Church Door label out of Atlanta, Georgia and released by them in 1983. In 1986 the Biblettes released "A Good Mother" on Shurfine.
The Biblettes consist of Sadie Holden, Anita Butler, Diana Wright, Tiny Cunningham and Ruby Williams. The album "Blessing Us All Through These Years" was produced by Fred McGriff owner of Richburg Records. As the brother of the Dorothy Love Coates, Fred McGriff certainly could make the distinction between a good and an excellent female voice in gospel music. The Famous Biblettes belong to the latter category.

According to the liners of A Good Mother, "The famous "Biblettes" were thirteen years ago under the leadership of Mrs. Sadie Holden" (i suppose the missing word is either "born" or "organized") which is not coherent with the ten years mentionned in the first LP liners...

Membership on A Good Mother is similar, except that Anita Butler has been replaced by Myrlene Miller...
